Winding Down

Monday 22nd October

Can't quite believe it's my last week in Kenya..!? Feeling that weird combination of I don't wanna leave but I'm kinda ready go home...but I don't wanna go!

Yesterday was a proper lazy Sunday - everyone was a lil dusty from their Saturday night adventures (I was happily in bed :) ) so it was a quiet morning. I tackled the mountain of washing that was left from dinner the night before and tidied up the kitchen so Sophie wouldn't have to come back to a tip! (Sundays are her day off and she'd left yesterday afternoon because it was another public holiday...Mashujaa Day I think..?!)

Look at that pile of clean dishes! All dried and put away and surfaces/hob wiped down too. I was on a roll!! (I can already feel the comments about doing more of that at home... ;-) )

No Sophie also means we have to feed ourselves...yikes! So we went to Crave for lunch and then I bought an avocado from the stall (aka wheelbarrow) at the end of our road and had avocado on toast for tea - only 15p and it was huge! I had an NFL game saved to watch so I enjoyed that too and that's about it! Oh, also Yvonne came back and has long hair! She got a weave at the weekend coz she wanted a change but has been complaining about the weight/tickliness/itchy scalp ever since 😂

Today was ok too, turns out it is exam week for all the classes this week.... Damn! The lack of communication is kinda frustrating! Spent the day handing out papers and going through 2 English and 1 maths paper to create our mark scheme, then marked a few too in the afternoon. #teacherlife
I actually don't mind it, me and Felix make it more fun for each other and I'm *almost* enjoying doing all the maths-y things again! (Don't tell Mr Rose, he was still telling me I would've loved A level maths right up until I left! No Sir, not for me - class 6-8 is about as far as my skills go!) I do it with a smile and gusto tho - it's just I still want to do more!

Tomorrow I'll double check if the younger classes are doing exams but I'm pretty sure they are...Felix said today that they have exams too but he could be wrong, I'll investigate anyways and maybe do some maths revision with class 8 or something too. I did a little bit today, they seem to be being left to themselves to revise before their exams next week so I dropped in a few times to help them with any questions they'd found that they weren't sure on and worked through some things with them, broke up the marking nicely! Flexed my geography and science muscles too.

Felix also told me they close the school on Friday for the holidays - apparently they play music and dance and stuff, it'll be a nice goodbye for me too I think, should be interesting!

But yeh, determined to make the most of what's left - need to unplug my busy brain I think and just embrace this crazy ride that has been a month in Kenya!

Love to all back home, 5 days and counting xxx
